The Gramophone Awards 2009

Wow... What a joke.

U2 opened it up with a resounding round of their new song that sounds like Bono has been listening to that one Bob Dylan song that Weird Al made a parody of.  And it was pretty lousy.

Then they did something else.

Then Justin Timberlake sang overtop of Al Green, which led to massive confusion on my part.

Something else

Then Coldplay got up and did their thing with who I was told was Jay-Z (who knew?).  Then I turned off the TV while they played Joe Satriani's song.  Then they won something for that song, which was lame.

Then Kid Rock "played".  I can't figure out why he's popular at all.  Also, whatever amps they were using sounded like GARBAGE.

Miley/Taylor = Miley SHUT UP!! and as much as I'm glad Taylor Swift is working with Tom Jackson, she needs voice lessons.

Some other weird duet sang.

Then that Hudson lady sang.  She's alright.  She was losing her inear during that song.

Then the Jonas Brothers.  With STEVIE FREAKING WONDER!!!!  What on EARTH was the person who organized this thinking?  That was just a joke.  I can't believe the garbage that they made Stevie do.

Next up.  Rock album of the year... So, my problem with this was that Metallica was the ONLY ROCK BAND NOMINATED!!!  And they didn't even win.

Some more whack duets.

Then Kenny Chesney played a song.

Then some Robert Plant/Allison Krauss song won Record(ing?) of the year.  Not surprising, considering that TBone Burnett did it.  That, and the fact that the whole album is garbage.

Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl, I think was the only pairing that made sense AT ALL.  Which is hilarious to me.  But I absolutely loved how Dave was flailing around to Paul's music.  Awesome.

John Mayer (Or Myer according to the Tampa Bay news), won for Say.  Which is not a good song at all.  Sorry, John.

Then Sugarland and Adele did a couple songs in what was arguably the most honest and best perfomances of the night.

Radiohead played, in what was arguably the most pretentious performance... Oh, wait, they're the most pretentious band, so never mind.  Skip.

Then Sam Jackson (IT'S MY BEER!!!) got up and yelled into the microphone for a minute.

Then I think it was Justin and TI... With a band, again.  That was neat.

Then we found out about Obama's grammys and the Secretary of The Arts.  Apparently it was Quincy's idea... But I think it might be a bad idea... If only for the reason, we don't need anything else to distract from the actual problem.  Then again, maybe we do.  Anyways.

Then Smokey (Robinson, not The Bear) came out and sang some Motown, which was fun.

Then Little Wayne had the Dirty Dozen Brass Band come out and do a tribute to New Orleans... 'cause apparently Hurricane Katrina is still relevant.

Then Trillian (only you fellow nerds out there will get that one) came out and introduced something.

The Rick Rubin won producer of year.  Which is funny to me, since the general public pretty much hated all his work this year.

Then that Robert Plant/Allison Krauss (or R-PAK as I'm now referring to it) won album of the year, (which we already discussed that I thought was awful and didn't need to win a free bottle of Dr. Pepper... Speaking of... Axl must be pissed that he wasn't mentioned on TV).

Then they gave Stevie the bad spot again and ended the show.

Oh, and somewhere in all this Blink 182 said they were getting back together.  I guess, that's good news for you pop punk guys.  Heck, maybe some fun music might actually come out of that.  That'd be AWESOME given the state of music these days.

So that's my rundown of my Twitter notes on the Grammys.  Pretty lame awards.
